AP Exam Overview
Entire Exam
- Four-function calculators with the ability to calculate square roots are allowed
- Formula sheet will be given to students to use on the exam
- ETS will write the exam questions
- Every question is based on the Learning Objectives found in the Framework
- Science practices are embedded in the exam
Section 1
- 63 multiple choice and 6 grid in questions
- There will be a range of acceptable answers for each grid-in question
- Multiple choice questions will have four possible answers
- 90 minutes to complete this section
- 50% of exam weight
Section 2
- Each question will be clearly marked with its point value
- 6 short free response questions (3-4 points)
- Short free response questions should take about 5 minutes and can be answered with a few sentences or short paragraph
- 2 long free response questions (10 points) – one is lab-based
- 10 minute reading time
- 80 minute response time
- 50% of exam weight
